I ordered my FWD Escape Hybrid in mid-Oct 2004, and it came in on Dec 10. Not a bad wait (2 months). I love the engineering that makes changing between gas and electric power a cinch, but I was unable to option-up to what I would have liked: Unavailable were stability control, satellite radio, heated seats, driver memory, power passenger seat, rear climate/audio controls, and there are no lights on the vanity mirrors. Ford missed an opportunity to improve the cabin when they re-designed the Escape for 2005 - they placed the parking brake handle on the center consol, instead of making it a pedal on the floor. It takes up space that would be better used for storage or better cup holders. I've been getting 24-27 mpg in mostly stop and go local driving, which is disappointing compared with the 36 mpg city rating the EPA gave the Hybrid Escape. I love the high-end sound and nav system with 6 changer CD, and cruising parking lots as quiet as a golf cart. |
