Just bought the Jetta 2.0T with Option package 1. This car is a great value all around for someone who wants a larger size compact with good to excellent performance, safety, and luxury features. The torque (acceleration) is great both from 0-60 and for passing on the freeway. The DSG transmission is seamless - you barely can tell when the gears shift - no turbo lag. I also appreciate the engine braking and overall quick throttle response. The ride is so good you easily find yourself going 25 mph over what you think you are going on the freeway - it is truly built for crusing at 100 mph on the autobahn. The interior features (dual climate controls, heated 12-way power leather seats, moonroof) are ergonomically excellent and what you would expect on a $35K car. The outside looks are bland but grow on you. The car rides a bit high and probably doesn't handle quite as well as a GLI. But believe me the handling and steering and braking are more than good enough for 95% of the people out there. Reliability remains to be seen. So far no problems exhibited but given VW's recent history I would recommend extended warranty just for peace of mind. Looked at Audi A3 but like the interior space on this one better - seems more roomy and has all of the same 'luxury' features. Same chassis, engine, transmission, for thousands less. Only negatives: center console intrudes a bit on the right leg (same as Audi), it can take a while to find the right seat position, and the rear visibility could be better. All in all I'm very pleased - especially for the money. |
