Overall the car's performance and comfort has been great. Although the Civic EX has many fine features, I feel I should warn consumers about some of my negative experiences with the car thus far. One complaint is that for the first 15-20 minutes after starting the car, the cooling of the air conditioner (even while set to high fan and coldest setting) seems to fade during accelerations on very hot days. To the point where during accelerations, it seems as though the a/c is set to vent. Boy can sitting in the car for the first 20 minutes in stop and go traffic while in Texas heat provide a sauna type environment. I must confusingly admit that after the first 20 minutes in the car or if the day is not so hot, the a/c does not seem to be affected by accelerations. I know, it doesn't make any sense to me either. Another complaint is that the gas mileage is reported to be ~32mpg on city and ~38mpg on highway. You would think that average use of the vehicle would result in gas mileage somewhere in between those two marks. Not for me. I have about 1700 miles on my Civic EX and I am averaging about 27mpg. Hmmmm??? Anyway, I approached the Honda Dealership with both my a/c and mileage concerns and they told me that the a/c systems works that way for some reason and they don't know why. Also, he thinks my mileage should increase once I break in my new car. Gee thanks! I suppose I will sweat away my problems and fill the tank a little more often than anticipated. Sorry Honda, but it's true. |
