Advice to buyer: |
If you're an enthusiast, go with the manual V6. |
Detailed review: |
Test drove a Mazda 6i with a manual transmission, the sport group, leather and a sunroof. Interior has good fit and finish and nice materials, great place to get about the business of driving. Drives smoothly around town and crisply when pushed hard. Flawless handling, excellent balance, great brakes, adequate power... but needs about 30 more horsepower to really impress as a 'sports' sedan.
The aero kit does nothing for the car's appearance, but if that's what's required to get the bigger 215/50VR70 rubber I can live with it, with one exeption: the 'Fast and the Furious' tailfin HAS to go. It screams 'DRAG RACER' when the rest of the 6i's personality says 'balance, balance, balance.'
Get the 6i if you're moving up from another 4 cylinder car, otherwise go with the 6s; if you like a bit of zoom, zoom in your day, get the 6s with a manual transmission and the sport package. |
