Favorite feature: |
Favorite overall feature is the 'what you get for the price' feature. Individual favorites are the ride comfort, all wheel drive confidence and the heated leather seats. |
Least favorite feature: |
Rear seating area could be a bit roomier, but acceptable. |
Advice to buyer: |
My advice is to seriously consider this car if you are not sure about a SUV and want more than a sedan. |
Detailed review: |
I'm one of those guys that spend endless hours trying to find the 'right' and 'best valued' car for my needs. I've resolved to the fact that there is no one car to meet all needs under $35,000 and in most cases you'll need two cars. This being said, my wife and I needed something sporty that would support our growing family (at the time of purchase: one 2yr old boy and now a second). The car would be driven primarily by my wife who feels uncomfortable driving SUVs and abhors minivans. Therefore, we needed a car with some easy access and a fresh sporty look with safety a major factor as well. You may ask what in the world exists. I'll tell you it's the Outback Limited. I considered a Volvo wagon as well, but it was almost $10,000 more and did not provide 'all wheel drive' (that was another $4,000 option). Also considered was the Volkswagen Passat, which is also a great car value. We chose the Outback because it handles great and looks sharp. This all backed by Subaru's all wheel drive engineering experience. We have the limited model that offers heated leather seats, dual sunroofs, upgraded wheels, upgraded sound system and a myriad of other stuff (in fact, the only option missing is the rear seat cup holders).
The only problem encountered thus far was an air conditioning switch failure, which was corrected under warranty coverage. Also, the rear seats could have some additional room. This was another trade off from the Volvo. There is definitely enough room for the kids, but not for an additional adult with two car seats in place (I guess my mother-in-law stays home!). This car listed at $27,400, but with some due diligence and the internet, I was able to purchase it at $24k and change. Plain and simple, this car is a great value. |
