Favorite feature: |
Love the 180 HP engine coupled with the 6speed trans and fat tires |
Least favorite feature: |
The sport seats are a bit uncomfortable on my thighs during longer trips |
Advice to buyer: |
Buy the latest model you can with the TDI or Turbo engine, try not to smile every time you drive it |
Detailed review: |
Picked up the car after finding it on Cars.com for $5k less than local dealers. Seeing it makes you want to smile, driving it requires plastic surgery to wipe the smirk off of your face. Wife and I now argue over who gets to drive. I looked at every level and model of Bug and based on other reviews here and other sites narrowed my search to '01 and later. The Turbo S just fell into my lap. Those 180hp, 17' tires, 6 sp trans, sport suspension and monsoon stereo make driving to work fun...going home more so. I test drove everything in the $10-15k range and after driving the Beetle I was hooked. Others may have better reliability ratings or be more practical but if you want to live a little, break out of the econobox and go drive a Bug. German ride and performance v. Japanese reliability and ho-hum design...
Oh, and with the '02 models VW upped the bumper to bumper warranty to 4/50,000 so there you can have your cake and eat it too! Oh, if yours doesn't come with a CD changer...go buy a MP3 player, half the price and more capability with no instillation necessary.
Highly recommend this. |
