 Advice to buyer:

Research many cars in this class. Some are flashier, some have more creature comforts, some are close with resale value and fuel effiency, but the Corolla seems to be the complete package.

 Detailed review:

I am generally impressed with my 2005 Corolla S, but I do have some complaints. The biggest complaint I have is the fact that the front seats do not go back far enough. I am 6'2', and I feel a bit cramped in the car. This is surprising to me that Toyota's engineers still have not designed the Corolla to give slightly taller people the leg room they need. The car I traded in, a 1994 Ford Escort, had plenty of room for my longer legs. It would seem obvious that they could probably sell a few more cars by simply allowing the drivers seat to go back another 2 inches... especially since there is plenty of leg room for rear seat passengers (relative to this class of car). The only other (very minor) complaints I have are the fact that the power window lockout for passenger windows not only locks out the window from the passenger's switch, but also from the driver's switch. This seems a little strange, but it is nothing I can't get used to. Next, the center arm rest (if you can call it that) is too low. It should be raised up to be even with the arm rest on the door and have more padding in it. Another little annoyance was that (at least on vehicles with the power rearview mirror) the sunvisors hit the mirror when you flip them down. It took me 10 minutes of adjusting to get it to where the mirror was in the right spot without either visor hitting it. The last complaint is that on the S model, the design of the front air dam (right under the liscense plate) is a bit askew. It would look a lot better if it was even all the way across the bottom of the car. Having said all of that, let me say that the positives far outweigh the negatives on a Corolla. The interior is quiet, controlls are in just the right places, the engine has plenty of pep (relative to this class of car), and the overall quality is world-class. Resale value on a Corolla is outstanding, and it comes with a fairly good standard waranty (3/36 BTB and 5/60 powertrain). The gas milage is fabulous, and unlike many cars in this class the automatic transmission does not seem to kill the engine performance. The handling of the Corolla is very good also. Compare with other cars in this class, I believe the Corolla is the right choice.
