FAQ
Backed by a newly-introduced five-year/60,000-mile warranty, the 2007 Expedition undercuts its domestic competition by up to $4,000 in an effort to take more of the shrinking large SUV market.
Does the 2007 Expedition come with Ford’s new warranty coverage?
Yes. For those who don’t know, that includes the usual three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a new five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Corrosion protection spans five years and unlimited mileage. How do the base prices of the Expedition/Expedition EL compare with the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban?
The base 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, the LS 4x2, carries a sticker price of $34,190 including a $900 destination charge, making it roughly $4,000 more expensive than a base Expedition. The 2007 Chevy Suburban LS 1500 4x2 goes for $37,190, representing a premium of about $2,500 over the 2007 Ford Expedition EL. Why is Ford (and GM) putting emphasis on full-size SUVs when gas prices are high and buyers seem to be moving to smaller vehicles?
First, the redesign of the Expedition was put into effect years before gas prices started climbing so high. Second, the folks at Ford and GM believe that the large SUV market, one of the most profitable, will level off at somewhere between 600,000 – 750,000 units annually, representing a significant chunk of buyers. Both companies are intent on capturing a greater percentage of those buyers, people who continue to need or desire a powerful, large vehicle for towing or transporting a family and all its associated gear on vacation.
